MARINE CORPS ANNOUNCEMENTS: JUNE 2009
I trust that this Newsletter finds all Marine Corps members of the Flag and General Officer Network enjoying true retirement and / or second careers. My charter is to pass as much relevant information that can assist us all both personally and professionally.
- I hope that all of you have received the Commandant’s personal invitation to attend the 2009 Retired General Officer Symposium that is being held at Quantico, VA 23-24 July. If you haven’t received your invitation, I will send you a copy by either fax or email.
- A good source of information that you all should be receiving is the SEMPER FIDELIS magazine published by Separations and Retirement Branch (MMSR-6). If not, they can be reached at 1-800-336-4649 / 703-784-9310 or fax 703-784-9834. In addition to providing general information this Memorandum for Retired Marines of all ranks contains just about all of the contact information for anything from administrative matters to unit reunions.
- It is parade season at the “Oldest Post of our Corps,” Marine Barracks Washington, DC or simply Eighth and Eye to most of us. The evening parade season runs from 8 May to 28 August 2009, and is conducted on Fridays only from 8:45 to 10:15 p.m. Guests arriving after 8 p.m. are not guaranteed seats. Online reservations can be made at http://www.mbw.usmc.mil/ParadeDefault.asp. Members of TFCON may also call MSGT Moore, Marine Barracks Washington Protocol Chief at 202-433-4074.
- The Sunset Parade at the Marine Corps War Memorial runs 9 June to 11 August 2009, and is held on Tuesdays only from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Sunset Parade is open to the public at no charge. Reservations are not necessary and spacious lawns provide ample room to bring lawn chairs and blankets for informal viewing. No other type of seating is available, except for invited guests of the Parade Reviewing Officials.
- My office at the Sierra Nevada Corporation Washington, DC Office is right next to the Crystal City Metro (1800 S. Bell St Suite 302), Arlington, Va 22202, and I offer it to each of you for your personal use if you need a “Visiting General Officers Office” if you are in from out of town or as a place to meet customers … as long as we aren’t competing for a proposal.
- Keep all of our forward deployed Marines and Corpsmen in your prayers. Contact me for anything that I can do to assist you in the National Capital Region and for any news you want in our newsletter.
Semper Fidelis,
Gordon Nash
