ARMY ANNOUNCEMENTS: JUNE 2009

ARMY General Officers:

As you all know Secretary Gates has made some sweeping changes to the budget and a variety of programs. He continues to support the expansion of the Army by 65k soldiers but the Army will stay at 45 Active Brigades versus 48. Also, the Future Combat System of vehicles will not be funded but much of the technology, such as UAVs and improved soldier systems, will continue to be fielded. The Army will continue to face the challenge of personnel OPTEMPO and refurbishment of equipment as it returns from combat.

There is much concern reference the high level of suicides. I am sure you all saw the dramatic efforts the 101st has taken to address this grave issue.

On a happier note Joe Taluto of the NY NG will replace Cylde Vaughn as the head of the Army NG. Clyde did a magnificent job and we all wish him the best. As some of you know, Joe took a full up NG Division (the 43rd Rainbow Div form NY) to combat in Iraq. This is the first time a NG Div deployed as a unit since WWII. Best of luck to Joe in this new and vital assignment.

If any of you need assistance from me, from passing around resumes to questions on a particular issue in the Army, let me know and I will do my best to answer them.

Thanks,

Jim Kelley Kelley
